Clarity Popcorn

I had a moment of clarity the other day after picking up my son's friend for a play date. I had to write about it because I think it will inspire you, and give you some clarity where your home business (or even just in LIFE) comes in.

My son's friend's mom had just had a baby a few days before and I invited D. over to play so that she could get a shower and a nap. (All the moms here know how hard it can be to just get the basic needs met with a new baby.)

It's about a 15 minute drive to get over to their house.

Total Disarray

When I got there I noticed that her house was in total disarray. It was clear to me that nobody had been helping here while she recovered from giving birth! I felt so badly for her but she refused to let me help her with anything beyond taking out an overflowing box of trash.

So, on our way back to my house I proceeded to coach her 7 year old on being his moms hero and helping her keep the house tidy because having a new baby is hard work and his poor mom is tired and hurting.

The right time and place.

I'm a rule follower. I obey the speed limit. I'm 100% committed to NOT giving another dime of my hard earned money to the government that I don't have to. (They just waste it anyway.) And...I think speed limits keep people safer.

So when I looked down and noticed that I was driving 10MPH over the speed limit I just about had a heart attack. (I know. It's kindof freakish. *wink*) So I touched my breaks and got back in line with my rule following, not relinquishing my money goal.

The moment of clarity.

This was the moment of clarity. I hadn't been paying attention to the task at hand: Driving safely, because I had allowed myself to get distracted by what I still think was a worthy cause.

That boy needed to help his mom out. He's old enough and I'm sure half of the messes in there are his. He needed to be encouraged to step up!

However, it was a noble task for another time. Not while I was driving, because I was too passionate about it. Safety first you know! *wink*

There is a phase of life for everything.

I was thinking about how to share this with my wonderful business followers when I realized how often I, myself get caught up in one task when I should be working on another. When I was first getting started I would get caught up in following too many coaches. Too many leaders spoil the stew!

Look at your day! You're busy, and you can't afford to get caught up in something that doesn't fit into your own personal and unique system. Stay on task. There is a season for everything. Finish your first project before moving on to another one, or you just might find yourself careening out of control just to pay massive amounts of your unearned money to someone who is doing exactly the same thing as the last mentor that you were following...

And really, why should you pay for it twice.

I paid for it about 3 times before I got wise.

There is no reason that you should make the same mistakes that I made when I was new to online networking.

Just some popcorn for thought. I hope you have a moment of clarity too.

Enjoy your bowl of popcorn!
